The Quality of the CSISD (College Station Independent School District) School Board
March 7th, 2010 Categories: 1
Often times it’s difficult to tell whether or not a school, or a school district is “good” or “bad.” Everyone hopes that their child will realize her/his full intellect, but in some schools, a number of students fade into the background and don’t learn as much as they could.
When moving to a new area, there are a huge amount of things to consider besides which school district is the best for your child, so it’s easy to overlook which school is right. However, it’s not a very good idea to leave it to fate, as some schools sadly do not perform as well as others; on the other hand, it can be difficult to determine which is which.
There are a number of ways to decide; for instance you could look at Read the rest of this entry »

Messina Hof Cooking Parties with the Chef in Bryan College Station
March 6th, 2010 Categories: 1
March is finally here and the springtime month brought along some greatly anticipated sunshine. Now that the cold weather looks like it may be behind us for good, Bryan and College Station residents can finally turn to local outdoor treasures. Messina Hof Winery and Resort has an exciting lineup of events this spring.
Make sure you pencil in the “Cooking Parties with the Chef” on March 18th and 21st. Cooking parties are offered for both beginners and experts, and everyone leaves with new tips, good memories, and a finely satisfied appetite.
If you prefer to focus more on the wine itself, then mark your calendar for this month’s wine appreciation class, taught on March 28th and is entitled “The Wines of Burgundy.” Join the family at 3:00 p.m. to learn about the five regions of Burgundy and two reviled grapes, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Of course, no class would be complete without plenty of samples to taste.
One of the best deals in town is the five dollar wine tour, on which you can enjoy late afternoon weather while exploring Bryan’s very own vineyard. Knowledgeable and fun staff lead tours through the various buildings and grounds while explaining the entire wine making process, from the grape picking to the label printing. The best part: the tour ends in the wine tasting room where the tour leader shares his or her knowledge on Messina Hof’s many wonderful wine offerings while you sip away.
Take advantage of this perfect weather with a friend and enjoy the highly acclaimed local wine at Messina Hof today!

Local Bryan/College Station Resident Contestant on Reality Show
March 1st, 2010 Categories: 1
Another resident in Brazos Valley is making a name for herself in Hollywood on a reality show! Last year, the whole Bryan/College Station area rooted for former Aggie, Jason Castro, on American Idol. This year DeShonda Smith from Bryan needs our votes! Smith is a contestant on Sunday Best, a reality show competition for gospel singers, and will need the Brazos Valley’s support.
DeShonda Smith is local teacher and attendant of Brazos Valley Community Church of God. She has her own personal MySpace, where she posts recordings of her musical talents and her love and devotion to her religion.
Sunday Best premieres it’s third season on Black Entertainment Television (BET) and is looking for the next “Gospel Superstar.” Smith has already auditioned, sent in her own personal audition tape and made the Top 10. If she wins the competition, she will receive a national recording contract, a new car, and a $300,000 prize package for her community, the Bryan/College Station area!
We support DeShonda Smith in her quest to becoming the next “Gospel Superstar” and hope she does the Brazos Valley proud!

Texans Take Over American Idol
February 27th, 2010 Categories: 1
This year’s season of American Idol will be groundbreaking with amazing talent and a new judge, comedian Ellen DeGeneres. Long time, devout American Idol fans will get to enjoy Ellen’s funny humor and jokes alongside the attitude America has come to love, Simon Cowell. Recently, rumors have surfaced that the two judges aren’t getting along on set. Hopefully these tensions will only lead to funnier moments and better ratings!
American Idol has long been deemed the show with “unbeatable ratings” and a showcase of unbelievable singing talent. This year’s Top 24 are no different and among them are 6 Texans vying for a chance to become the next American Idol! The 6 contestants from Texas include Alex Lambert, Casey James, Lacey Brown, Paige Miles, Tim Urban, and Todrick Hall. After their first performances, all 6 have remained in the competition and hope to do as well as fellow Texan and former American Idol contestant, Jason Castro, did in 2008 and make it to the Top 10.
In recent seasons, American Idol started the “America Gives Back” program in an effort to raise money for different benefits. This year is no different, American Idol, Fox and Apple have teamed up to help raise money for the Haiti relief by placing songs performed each night available online on iTunes for fans to purchase. The profits from iTunes will be given to Haiti Relief Fund.
Since the premiere of American Idol in 2002, the show has produced many top recording artists including Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, David Cook and most recently Kris Allen. Since Thursday’s Result Show, each Texan has a one and twenty shot at becoming the next American Idol, which we hope happens!

Granite Counter Tops Worth it in College Station?
February 19th, 2010 Categories: 1
Have you ever wondered if your College Station home would look better with granite counter tops? Do you know how they would wear? How much would it cost?
Of all the surfaces inside of the house, counter tops usually have to endure all the wear and tear. Anything you don’t want laying around on the floor usually ends up on counter tops, and accidents like to happen when given enough time. Even worse, scratches and gouges can be eye magnets, but even so, remodeling can be difficult to think about sometimes.
Home owners are sometimes daunted with the issue of remodeling: it can be painstaking to decide upon and it’s usually tough work. Beyond that, there is no formula to figuring out if the cost exceeds the benefit when part of the benefit is happiness
Research is very important, and there are a fair number of options with types of counter tops and manufacturers. After any amount of research, it’s clear that many consumer reports and magazines praise Read the rest of this entry »

What Do Motorcycles, WhiteWater Rafting, Real Estate and 74 Have in Common?
September 3rd, 2009 Categories: 1, Community Events
Real Estate agents really do have a life outside selling homes. I know sometimes it seems like all we do is work (ask our families!) but we do enjoy other things too.
Today I brought a motorcycle helmet to one of our agents. Why is that a big deal? Because her birthday celebration next weekend is for her 74th birthday! Barbara Salisbury and Rhonda Fry are celebrating their birthdays together. One is turning 74 and the other is turning 47!
I asked Barbara about this adventure and she said it was exciting like her birthday 2 years ago when she went white water rafting. I hope I am doing exciting things like this on my 74th birthday!
The two will depart from Century 21 Beal on University in College Station at 1pm on Rhonda’s Harley Sportster and then we will all meet up at Bryan Ice House Restaurant at Lake Bryan.
Watch for more pictures of the event coming up very very soon!
