No Lawns, No Landscaping… Just Trees!
August 3rd, 2011 Categories: 1
Even though Bryan/College Station hasn’t gotten much rain this summer, we still have yard work to attend to. A lot of trees are dying this summer due to the lack of rain, but our hefty palm tree (see below) seems to just keep growing no matter what.
- The ~50ft palm tree
At almost 50 feet tall, trimming this palm tree is quite the task. After calling around town for weeks and trying to track down some willing tree trimmers, we were thinking this tree would never get trimmed. My wife and I set up 3 separate appointments with different companies- all resulting in no shows. Apparently the tree was scarier than we thought!
It wasn’t until we found Just Trees, a locally owned company, that our enormous palm tree got the attention it needed. The guys at Just Trees set up an appointment for the following morning and arrived ready and willing to tackle the monstrosity. The owner and his crew were not only friendly but professional, quick and did a great job! Just Tree receives our highest recommendation!

College Station Meals on Wheels
July 7th, 2011 Categories: 1
In cities like Los Angeles, Nashville, Dallas and Austin, food trucks are all the rage. Now College Station has two gourmet food trucks of our very own—Chef Tai’s Mobile Bistro and Chef Peter Madden’s Street Cuisine. Both trucks serve great gourmet food at convenient locations across town during both lunch and dinner.
Chef Tai, of Veritas Wine and Bistro, serves up street tacos, burritos, sandwiches, rice bowls and various specials in his food truck. The Korean style street tacos are huge and definitely our favorite! For such a small price you are able to enjoy gourmet and delicious food on the streets of College Station. Last week Chef Tai’s specials included grilled chicken and steak wraps and duck quesadillas. Just wait for next week!
Madden’s Street Cuisine is Chef Tai’s direct yet friendly competition. The regular menu consists of a street burger, street tacos, a green chile burger, and fish & chips. But the daily specials are what make his menu stand out—crab sandwiches, grilled cheese, and BBQ turkey burgers! Since the gourmet food is priced at regular prices you can always spring for dessert. Madden’s homemade ice creams are yummy (we suggest the Toasted Marshmallow!) and the cookies aren’t bad either!
Both food trucks announce their schedule each week on their websites, Facebook and Twitter. Chef Madden has even thrown in some trivia questions for discounts or giveaways, which always spices things up. We can’t wait to see what these two battling food trucks have in store for College Station and where they take their food next!
